CLITHEROE A were represented by an all-West Bradford team in their Slazenger East Lancashire Open League Division Two fixture away at Crow Wood.
And the villagers didn't let the town side down.

With regular townies Derek Parrott and Roger Ravenscroft absent, it was down to four villagers from West Bradford – Phil Mileham, Steve Pym, Tony and Daniel Bush, to cultivate a maximum points victory, taking five vital points in their bid to win the league and gain promotion to the top flight next season.

Due to the terrible weather, the match was played on the indoor carpet at Crow Wood and Phil Mileham and Daniel Bush started the match with an almost flaw-less performance, winning in two straight sets.

The serve and volley play of the pair worked well, as Bush put away the returns of serve from the opposition with attitude.

On the other court, Steve Pym and Tony Bush won against their opponents with equal ease, also in straight sets, with the villagers playing relaxed tennis throughout. Pym played his usual mixture of accurate baseline shots and winning overheads with Bush putting away volleys at the net with ease.

In the return matches, both West Bradford pairs won in straight sets, to secure all five points.

This match firmly puts West Bradford on the local tennis map – and, who knows, this could be the start of great things for the village side!
