And with a prize pot of more than £1,000, it promises to be even bigger and better than the inaugural event of the relaunched competition run in convincing style by Ighten Leigh's Jonny O'Reilly earlier in the year.

We have once again teamed up with Burnley-based brewers Moorhouse's and the Ighten Leigh Social Club in Burnley to bring the competition back to the snooker players of East Lancashire.

And the Moorhouse's Golden Cue will now carry a first prize cheque of £400.

David Grant, managing director of Moorhouse's, said this week: "The resurgence of snooker in clubs around the area has coincided with the rise in real ale in those clubs.

"We know how popular snooker is in this area and we are delighted to be associated with the Golden Cue.

"We are fully aware just how important the competition was in former years, and after a 15-year absence we knew that the time was right for the competition to be relaunched last season.

"We also now know how well received the event was last time around and fully expect an even better response this time."

The new-look competition is the brainchild of Neil McGovern of Ighten Leigh Social Club, the results secretary for the Burnley and District Snooker League.

The competition is a single event, with players from both large and small tables competing against each other throughout the draw.

The competition will be limited to the first 128 entrants, and is only open to amateur players aged 18 or over.

Players must be registered with clubs in the boroughs of Burnley, Pendle or the Ribble Valley, and they must compete in the Burnley and District Snooker League, the Althams Travel Burnley Sunday School
Snooker League, the Clitheroe and District Snooker League, the Nelson and District Semi-Snooker League, the Tacklers/ABV Colne Snooker League or the Skipton and District Snooker League.

Entry to the competition will cost £5.

Entries must be made by October 13th, and all matches, up until the quarter-finals, will be played over the best of three frames.

There will be high-break prizes sponsored by Club Fruit Services.

The highest break up until the end of the semi-finals will win £50 with the top break on finals night received £1 per point.

From the quarter-finals onwards, all matches will be played at the Ighten Leigh Social Club, Padiham Road, Burnley, with the quarters, semis and final all taking place in April and May.
