LIVES are being put at risk with the removal of several life belts from along the River Ribble.
Four life belts have so far been taken from along the river at Edisford Bridge and thrown into the water, never to be seen again.
"Those responsible need to remember these belts could save someone's life," said Mr Alan Boyer, of Ribble Valley Borough Council.
"This is a particular busy time of year at Edisford and with the recent heavy downpours of rain, you never know when these life belts might be needed."
Ribble Valley Borough Coun. Alan Yearing, ward councillor for Edisford and Low Moor, said: "It's an absolutely foolish and dangerous thing to do."
Although the missing life belts have been replaced and are checked on a weekly basis, Coun. Yearing asked the public to be extra vigilant.
