WORDS penned by the country's most famous playwright helped two budding Clitheroe thespians raise funds.
Grammar school pupils Jonathan Glasgow and Tyrone Ruth are trying to raise £800 each to help fund a week-long stay in London with the National Youth Theatre.

The pair earned their place at the October workshop, where they will train with the National Youth Theatre and take part in a production, after successfully getting through tough auditions.

To help raise cash towards the cost of their accommodation the pair held a Shakespeare Day in school. Both Year 12 boys were excused classes as they attempted to act out as many Shakespeare plays as possible.

Complete with costumes, wigs and the help of fellow pupils, the teenagers got through "Romeo and Juliet", "Macbeth" and "Midsummer Night's Dream" – as well as most of "Taming of the Shrew".

Head of drama Dawn Elliot said: "It was a lot of fun. Students made donations to the fund if they came to watch the performances."

Jonathan and Tyrone are also planning a summer fun run with a route which may take them past as many local theatres as possible.
