FURTHER details of the £12m. development of Clitheroe Community Hospital have been revealed.
And proposals could include the demolition of the current 19th Century facility, which began as a workhouse, with affordable housing set to take its place.
A series of meetings in Clitheroe, Slaidburn and Whalley enabled Ribble Valley residents to voice their opinions.
The East Lancashire Primary Care Trust is proposing to build a three-storey modern building on the two and a half acre space to the left of the current hospital building in Chatburn Road, Clitheroe.
General wards will be on the ground floor along with a central reception area, with therapy and rehabilitation rooms occupying the first and second floors. Early plans show just 32 beds evenly split between acute and rehabilitation units to comply with infection control regulations. The site will also include an open garden space and possibly a central courtyard.
In addition to existing services provided by the current hospital, such as out-patient clinics, occupational therapy, diagnostics and specialist dentistry, the new development will potentially include health education facilities and mobile medical units.
Mobile medical units could include an MRI scanner, surgical units and breast screening.
Director of finance for East Lancashire Teaching PCT Mr Chris Dixon explained that services and facilities will be moulded to the Ribble Valley's demographic.
Representatives also revealed there would be no charge for the car park.
It has been decided the old hospital building will be demolished, with affordable housing taking its place. Trees surrounding the area however will be retained.
